About The Project

It started off as a lark, a squib, a snark. Everyone was doing ________ grams, taking pictures of their food, their livestock, their offspring — anything that could support a hashtag and a humblebrag. The air was thick with them.
So one day I pointed my phone at the zenith sky and took a picture — a #Zenithgram. Short, catchy, descriptive. Easy to do. Something other than what artisanal greens I was eating or how my curated sweater looked on me. Something that is pretty much universal to wherever anyone might be — the exact spot directly above your head.
Sometimes they were standard nice cloud pictures, sometimes there was something interesting overhead, sometimes they were dramatic, sometimes they were stunning, sometimes they were literally in-the-moment. In the beginning I did a few inside, a few with some foliage or buildings, but the process shook out over time to be just the sky. Lots of daymoons, contrails, aircraft, birds and precipitation. Sometimes, an accidental branch or leaf. Occassionally, a deliberate powerline, wind turbine or streetlight. And rarely, a drone, a kite, a balloon, or a bubble.
Over time, it built up to be an interesting compendium, something that transcended just a hashtag and a social media platform. There are almost a thousand #Zenithgrams now, with more to come. Enjoy — and feel free to post your own #Zenithgrams, however you may wish to present them.
